New Feature: Additional Hybrid Draft support

A new Hybrid / Half-and-Half Draft setting lets commissioners cap how many players each team can buy in the auction portion — and FanDraft automatically polices the rule.

New Feature: Additional Hybrid Draft support — FanDraft

Some fantasy leagues do not run a draft in just one format. Instead, they use what is often called a Hybrid Draft or Half-and-Half Draft.

In this setup, part of the roster is built through an auction, and the rest is filled through a traditional draft. For example, a league might let every team buy 4 players in an auction, then complete the remaining roster spots through a standard snake or ordered draft.

It is a fun format because it gives owners the strategy and drama of an auction without requiring the entire draft to be auction-based. But it also creates one annoying job for the commissioner: making sure every team stops bidding and nominating once they have filled their auction portion.

We provide online documentation that assists with how to do a hybrid draft in FanDraft here.

We recently added a new Hybrid / Half-and-Half Draft setting, where commissioners can set a limit for how many players each team may select during the auction portion of the draft. Once a team reaches that limit, FanDraft automatically helps police the rule.

When a team has filled its auction slots:

  • They can no longer bid on players
  • They are passed over during the nomination process
  • They cannot nominate or draft additional auction players
  • The draft room clearly shows when a team has filled its auction allotment
  • The MAX bid an owner can make on a player is based on the quantity of restricted auction players selected.

This removes the need for the commissioner to manually track auction counts, interrupt bidding, or remind owners that they are done with the auction portion.

To use it, go to your league settings and enable Hybrid / Half-and-Half Draft under Visibility & extras. Then set the number of players each team is allowed to select during the auction portion.

For most leagues, this setting will stay off. But for leagues that run a half-auction, half-traditional format, it should make the draft smoother, clearer, and easier to manage.
